Pre-licensed

What education is required before I can apply for my license?
You must have 210 classroom hours of acceptable education, which includes 150 classroom hours of credit in core real estate subjects as defined by the Texas Real Estate License Act (TRELA). You must complete all of the required education BEFORE filing your license application. The provisions of TRELA require that you complete:

  • 60 classroom hours of credit in Real Estate Principles
  • 30 classroom hours of credit in Law of Agency
  • 30 classroom hours of credit in Law of Contracts
  • 30 classroom hours of credit in an elective core real estate course.
  • 60 classroom hours of credit of core courses or in related courses acceptable to TREC
The subject and course content for your elective core course is for you to choose. In addition to Real Estate Principles, Law of Agency and Law of Contracts, we offer core courses in Real Estate Law, Real Estate Appraisal, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Marketing, Real Estate Investments and Property Management. The remaining 60 classroom hours of credit may be from core real estate subjects or real estate related subjects. Credit for real estate related subjects may be obtained from college courses. To find classes, see Core Real Estate License Education Providers for salesperson and broker applicants.
